Aligning Back to True Wealth

“Life has a funny way of coming full circle, bringing with it lessons we didn’t know we needed.

Growing up on a farm, I was exposed to a wide spectrum of experiences that have shaped who I am. My father was (and still is) a workaholic, only now easing into retirement at 82, and my mother worked shift work as a nurse. Early on, I learnt about grit, compassion, and the importance of family. Ironically, while surrounded by fruit trees on our orchard, I often heard: “money doesn’t grow on trees.” These were the days of 16% interest rates and the collapse of the Pyramid Building Society, times marked by financial fear and uncertainty.

While I carry gratitude for many experiences, it was the harder ones that left a deeper mark -childhood trauma, scarcity, guilt, and a sense of not being enough. I grew up believing that wealth was a number to be chased. That success came from working harder. That net worth equalled self-worth.

What I hadn’t yet realised is that our relationship with money often mirrors our relationship with ourselves.

True financial independence, I’ve since learned, isn’t about how much you have, it’s about feeling internally resourced, emotionally safe, and free to live in alignment with your values. It’s about having choices, self-leadership, and the ability to live life on your own terms.

Working as a Financial Adviser eventually held up a mirror. The same patterns I saw in my clients were the ones I carried myself. My honeymoon marking a turning point and the birth of Mindful Finances - the start of my journey to understand my money story.

Through deep personal development and training in life coaching and money coaching, I uncovered a more empowering truth: real wealth is found in doing the inner work - embracing joy, connection, freedom, adventure, and giving back.

I now live by a new mantra - work smarter, not harder, a practice that is ongoing. It’s also focussed towards aligning how I spend my time and money with who I truly am and what I value.

Letting go of outdated money beliefs was my homecoming. One that redefined my idea of success and allowed me to step into a deeper level of abundance. Not just financially, but emotionally and energetically.

If your definition of wealth is out of sync, know that financial wellbeing is possible. It begins with awareness, alignment, and giving yourself permission to rewrite the story.”
